2014 Squirrel Shoot Suprise Valley

It is time for my annual squirrel shoot with my father, we are heading to Surprise Valley. I started packing Wednesday night after work. First had to get my rifles packed a Savage93 in 17hmr, Howa 1500 in .223 and ar-15 in 5.56. I then got the magazines, ready cleaned packed up in ammo cans, then the ammo.
 I have 1300, round of 17hmr, in a snow camouflage dry box, and 1650 rounds of .223 in two dessert camouflage dry cans for a grand total of  together  just shy of 3000 total round packed. I then got the boots one pair of winter and one pair of desert both pairs waterproof but not taking any chances reapplied scotch guard, cleaning supplies, ice chest, and shooting bags.  Made the grossery list for food, hamburger, hotdogs and seakes, frute and frozen vegitables. My dad was taking care of lunch meat, bread, snaks and conaments. Lastly I Started packing clothing, toletries, tried to go light this year. I have over packed times before, but was able to get most of my clothing in my 3day bag, so that was a major acomplisments.

Saturday March, 8th left at 6:00 am we stopes for, breakfast and at Cabelas in Reno & gas in Alturas, got on the fields by 1:30 pm, lots of squirrels running and up eating. I pulled out my Savage 17hmr and went to work. I shot 120 rounds, My longest came at 207 yds. & my closest was 17 feet. My dad was using his Reminton 700 in. 223 he had 85 from 242 yards to 12 yards.

 Sunday March, 9th  was a washout awoke to rain and no squirrels went out to the fields and waited for about an hour to see if it was even worth getting out of the truck. We saw three squirrels in that time, decided it was going to be better wait in hotel room wait it out. 

Monday March, 10th rained all night long but we woke up to snow. Went in to town for breakfast, then back to the room to get ready for the days shooting. Was able to shoot all day even with the snow and wind. I has 102 kills and 9 possibles for the day with the wind I shot the Howa 1500. Dad was on his Reminton 700 in .223, he shot at least 115. Snow

Tuesday March, 11th it was a full day on the fields  I has 162 kills and 3 possibles for the day with the wind light I shot the Howa 1500. Dad was on his Reminton 700 in .223, he shot at least 100. This was by far this was my best day I hit the squirrels hard. Had a verity of shoot, this is the closet shot of the day.  I had some flippers, floppers, half-ers, poppers, flyers, and one donut.


Wednesday, March 12th we had a 1/2 day had to come home only shot 45 that morning but my dad opened his morning with 14 in a row. 
When it was all side and done I shot 560 rounds with 412 kills, my dad shot 700 rounds with 379 kills, and the 2014 squirrel trip is in the books.
